Eastern Cathay Restaurant and Lounge, located in Portland, Oregon, is a hidden gem that offers a delightful dining experience for lovers of Chinese cuisine. This restaurant not only takes pride in its delicious food but also in its friendly service and welcoming ambiance.
As a food reviewer, I had the pleasure of exploring their menu, which boasts a variety of mouth-watering dishes such as Fried Jumbo Shrimp, Pork Bok Choi with Tofu Soup, and Fried Shrimp with assorted tidbits. The flavors in each dish were robust, authentic, and truly satisfying.
What sets Eastern Cathay apart from other Chinese restaurants is its commitment to quality ingredients and traditional cooking methods. The owners have created a neighborhood feel that keeps customers coming back for more. The fact that they have taken steps to address previous concerns about the parking lot shows their dedication to providing a comfortable dining experience for all patrons.
Overall, my experience at Eastern Cathay Restaurant and Lounge was exceptional. The food was exceptional, the service was prompt, and the atmosphere was inviting. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a delicious Chinese meal in a cozy setting. Don't miss out on this culinary delight in the heart of Portland.

I got takeout on a Thursday evening. Excellent food, quick service, very affordable. The owner answered honestly when I asked if I'd ordered enough for two people. We got the Very Special Combination plus sweet & sour soup and salad rolls. (What I would call egg rolls). The sweet & sour soup was DELICIOUS and heavy on black pepper. There was another couple waiting at the same time who were regulars for years. I think the 3-star average is from people who don't like the unhoused population that used to take up the parking lot. There's a fence up now. Eastern Cathay has a nice neighborhood feel. I look forward to ordering from them again.

I ordered spring rolls and sweet and sour chicken to go. Food was very good and service was good. I would happily order it again!

Wow - this place has great Chinese food! My husband and I hadn't been here since it was Elmer's. The news did a story showing their difficulties with homeless. I'm happy to report there are no more homeless. I encourage everyone to come here for great Chinese food and support this wonderful couple as they work to fence the property and make repairs from damage caused by the previous campers. Butterfly shrimp are amazing. Brings back memories of Pagoda Restaurant in Hollywood District. Service is great!

My favorite Chinese restaurant. Good tats yes amazing! The best in Portland. It is always hot and made fresh!

I've been coming to Eastern Cathay for over a decade.Their food is reminiscent of the Republic Cafe (NW Portland) in the good old days. I understand that the chef worked there...which might explain the resemblance. The lady behind the counter is always pleasant and friendly and the food is very good. I highly recommend this establishment. E.J.W.

Stopped at the Chinese Restaurant whilest on my way to McMenamins Edgefield. Right when I walked in it was like taking a step back in time when Newport WA got it's first Chinese Reataurant and the whole population came running. I had a to go Sweet and Sour CHICKEN and it was yummy AND delicious. A great friend for bed since I haven't met Mark Cuban face to face at this point yet. Go Mark Cuban for President of the USA in 2020.
